The New York City Police Department (abbreviated NYPD) is New York City's main police force. It is the largest and one of the oldest in the United States, with over 35,500 uniformed members. It is headquartered in the One Police Plaza building in Lower Manhattan, but provides its services to each of the five boroughs.
